The Philadelphia Diversity Law Group (“PDLG”) is a nonprofit serving law students and alumni, and we are firmly committed to user privacy, security, and inclusion. We respect the privacy of every individual in our community and strive to protect the personal information you entrust to us. In line with our mission, we apply these values to our data practices by treating all users’ information with equal care and respect. User Accounts and Profile Privacy
Account Information: When you sign up for a PDLG account or alumni profile, you provide personal details (name, email, etc.) which are used to verify your identity and enable account features. You can log in to view and edit your information at any time. We encourage you to keep your profile up to date so the alumni network remains current.
Profile Visibility Settings: We understand that not everyone wants their information fully public. That’s why we give members control over their profile visibility. By default, certain basic profile fields (like your name and practice area) may be visible in the alumni directory, but you have the ability to adjust privacy settings for each field. You can choose to hide specific details (for example, you might display your practice area and city but keep your email private), or even hide your entire profile from the public directory if you prefer (to request your profile be hidden from the directory, please email contact us. These settings are available in your account profile dashboard. Changes you make are applied immediately to who can see your info.
Alumni Directory (Optional): The alumni directory is an opt-in service designed to help our community stay connected. By having a profile, you agree to share some information with others in the PDLG network. However, participation is optional – if you do not wish to be listed at all, you can choose to keep your profile private, hide your profile from the directory, or ask us to remove you completely. The directory is public-facing to a limited extent (basic listings can be viewed on the site), but detailed information is generally shown only to logged-in PDLG members. We also remind all alumni using the directory that the information is for personal networking and community purposes; using it for unsolicited commercial outreach is against our terms. PDLG may monitor directory use and will address any misuse.
Email Communications and Newsletters
Collection and Use of Emails: PDLG collects email addresses to keep our members informed. If you create an account or join our mailing list, you will receive periodic emails such as a newsletter, announcements about events, mentorship opportunities, or updates on our programs. We use a trusted email service/provider (or integrated newsletter platform) to manage these communications. We limit emails to relevant non-profit and alumni-focused content – you won’t receive unrelated third-party marketing from us.
Opt-Out and Preferences: We respect your inbox and you are in control of what you receive. Every bulk email we send will include an unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can click unsubscribe at any time to opt out of future newsletters or certain types of emails. Alternatively, you may adjust your email preferences in your account settings or contact us to be removed from specific mailing lists. We will promptly honor all opt-out requests. (Note: even if you opt out of optional emails, we may still send essential account or service messages, such as password resets or important policy updates, when necessary.) We treat these laws as our guiding principles even if they may not all strictly apply to our nonprofit operations.
